Jamaica is an island nation of the Greater Antilles, located in the Caribbean Sea. Its name comes from the indigenous Xaymaca, which means "Land of Wood and Water", or the "Land of Springs".
English is the country´s official language as it was a British colony before achieving full independence in 1962. It´s capital, Kingston, is the biggest city of Jamaica.
Jamaica houses one of the largest natural harbours in the world, the Kingston Harbour. The country also has an exuberant fauna and flora, and the sunny beaches and wondeful hotels to lodge attract a lot of tourists that come from different parts of the world.
Many internationally known artists were born in Jamaica, including Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Dennis Brown, Shaggy, grace Jones, Sean Paul and others.
