Curiosidade Cultural: The Lost City of The Incas

Machu Picchu is one of the most important attractions in Peru. It is a pre-columbian city located on the top of a mountain, about 2,400 metres above sea level and most archeologists believe it was built on the XV Century, under the orders of the Inca Emperor Pachacuti.

Machu Picchu was declared Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The city welcomes tourists from all around the world, but the main infrastructure to host them is on the  neighboring cities, like Aguas Calientes and Cusco.
